First appearance at Paris Fashion Week, this collection, titled ,,Born to earth, Reborn to earth,” explores themes of humans coexisting with nature.

The 2022 Spring/Summer lineup employs traditional Japanese dyeing and bleach techniques, while the 2023 Autumn/Winter lineup features ,,mud dyeing” techniques from Amami Ōshima, an island in southern Japan.

Layra went to Amami Ōshima and worked with local “mud dyeing” craftsmen. During her stay, she became conscious of the blessing of earth and water and how mud is born from rich water and lands.

Layra's dyeing process is experimental. Each piece is not done after a single dyeing process but is somewhat washed, bleached, and dyed multiple times before it acquires its final gradation of colors.

The fabrics used for every piece in the collection were dyed from scratch, and each piece was designed after examining the final dyed fabric.

Layra has also experimented with nature-friendly fabric (fabric made from basalt rock) for a piece in her collection. Basalt rock has received praise in recent years as an alternative to other nature-unfriendly materials linked to microplastic ocean pollution problems.

The nature-inspired color theme of this collection includes the earth's pulse (brown), red flames of life and rebirth, black that envelopes all, and blue that washes all away. Various color gradation pieces were made to match each season's color themes.

Text written on the pieces casually represents messages to oneself regarding one's struggles and encouragement.

Background music was selected to match this collection's emphasis on nature, natural fabrics, and natural dyeing processes.

Every piece in this collection expresses moving away from mass production towards new innovation and values.

MCK Designs

Also known as M C K, head designer and founder of M C K DESIGNS, started in 2021. Born in the Netherlands on January 3rd, 2000, originally from Poland and Suriname. She was raised in a multicultural household. She is currently located in Belgium, Europe.

Fashion has been a part of her life since she was 10 when she fell in love with sketching her designs.

Practicality and comfort above all. Her work is about the comfort she finds in fashion and expressing it in her designs. She started designing womenswear using masculine and feminine silhouettes combined but also focused on accessories, unisex, and menswear.

Her real journey began in February 2021 when she started her brand at 21, manufacturing all orders herself, from pattern drawing to finishing the end product. She introduced over eight collections/drops that year alone, thanks to her hard work and dedication.

In the summer of 2022, she put her brand on hold to work on her rebrand, which will also be part of the show. By rebranding, she hopes to expand and increase her brand’s exposure.

After months of rebranding, she is introducing her brand again as a high fashion brand. She will present her collection “In War with Myself” to dedicate her introduction to the fashion world to herself and her journey of getting where she is today.

This collection is inspired by nature combined with the military and the connection between that and her story.

Atelier Coin

Cameron Lizotte owns and designs Atelier COĪN, established in 2016. He focuses on wearable, one-of-one artwork and aims to have his garments transcend beyond clothing. Growing up in Sudbury, Ontario, the nickel capital of the world, he found the title COĪN as it is his roots, like the nickel beneath him. A career in professional hockey, culminating in an OHL cup victory with the Erie Otters in 2017, made him a self-taught artist who would go straight from practice to pattern cutting. Because of this, he understands what it takes for something to take shape truly.

Each piece is designed for true individuality and is inspired by the enthralling landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, where he lives and works, and the innate qualities of the unique and often upcycled fabrics themselves. Utilizing each fabric's unique combination of texture and color, he coaxes his work to take its natural path, resulting in something far more than the sum of its parts.
His newest collection, The Great Escape, is the next logical step for his garments. Combining ethically sourced materials, functional silhouettes, and technical pattern work, the clothes are built to embrace the nature they are born from. The fabrics were chosen to maximize form and function: nylons provide a durable feel and a clean appearance, canvas shines in workwear-inspired shapes, and silks accent the collection with an unmatched shimmer and feel. Like always, each garment is handmade at every step, from the first cut to the final stitch.

Befrow

Cubism is a highly conceptual art movement. It pursues the beauty of geometric shapes and the aesthetics of their arrangement and combination. Objects traditionally observed or represented from a single perspective are instead presented from a multitude of viewpoints, conveying the continuity of time and space.

This approach relies not solely on visual experience and intuition but primarily on reason, concepts, and thought. Picasso once said, ,,It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but it took me a lifetime to paint like a child.” In art education for children, the period from 3 to 8 years old is called the ,,Master of Art” period. Three and 4-year-olds have an insatiable desire to understand the world around them.

Photo: Global Fashion Collective

This understanding is not the same as knowledge for adults; instead, they begin to feel the world around them, free from the influence of prejudice, bias, and peer pressure. This unique feeling forms the foundation for the emergence of art.

Children draw what they know, not what they see. Their drawings are not copies of the real world. As many art masters have commented: we can not draw what we see, and precise depiction is not equal to art.

Gigi wants her new series to express that people should always see the world as children do. Once this perception instinct is lost, any creative expression will also be lost.
