According to the organizers, Vancouver Fashion Week Spring/Summer 18 is set to be the best yet.
Kicking off with the Opening Gala on Monday the 18th, guests will be privy to a handful of designer previews and full lines by local brand Aiki District , Australian designer, Charly Thorn and Nozomi Kuwahara from Japan.
Tuesday’s guests will see an eclectic mix of young first timers and VFW veterans hit the runway. These will include Chilean designer, Paulina Cañas and her label Cuerodesign which uses authentic leathers in feminine and sensual designs; and, returning to VFW for her second season is Rabia Dastgir, a local designer whose previous lines have featured bold colours and pattern rich fabrics.
Wedne sday is a night to highlight the local talents from Vancouver and Canada as a whole. VFW has a long and strong history of partnering with local design schools to show a few lucky students’ lines each season. This year Vancouver Community College will open Wednesday night’s show with over 20 looks from their students. Showing alongside the students will be local favourites Akoya with her swim range, and Madame Katjina.
Opening on Thursday, for his 10th season at VFW, is veteran local, Evan Clayton . Previous years he has bought antlers with a touch of whimsy down the VFW runway, and we are eager to see what he produces this season. Accompanying Clayton on Thursday evening are students from La Salle College, showing their upcoming talent for the 7th season along with Panamanian designer Anna Francesca.
Taking us into the weekend are some exciting VFW debut designers. Among those is Fiction Tokyo by young designer Monaca Nishi from Japan and Chi Wu for CHENLONHENKU, a menswear designer from the UK who will close Friday's show.
Saturday, historically the busiest day, will see thousands flood through the doors at the David Lam Hall. Those who make their way through the crowds will be blessed with runways by local favourites like Kirsten Ley and Sam Stringer right beside Project Runway Junior’s top 5 Tieler
James.
Bringing SS18 to a close guests on Sunday will see student designs from John Casablancas Institute , ALEX S. YU , a Canadian local who will be showing a mixture of mens and womens’ wear and Hakuyo Miya for her brand Mouton Blanc.
