One of the most recognizable and best female sports journalists in Europe Deniz Aksoy has been staying in Podgorica due to the Euroleague games Anadolu Efes-Maccabi and Anadolu Efes-Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Before the start of the third quarter of the match between Anadolu Efes and Hapoel Tel Aviv last night, she set aside time for MNE magazin.
She said that this was her second time visiting Montenegro.
– I love this country! I love your culture, the food, people are so welcoming here. It's amazing. I love Kotor, I love Budva, I love Podgorica. Obviously, its culture of the sports, it's huge here – Aksoy is saying these compliments for Montenegro with a smile.
She is honest in explaining that she has watched Montenegro during Eurobasket, but was not able to find time to look at the league matches.
We ask who is her favourite Montenegrin basketball player.
– Who do you think? Vučević – Aksoy says, laughing.
We wanted to know what challenges she was facing as a woman in sports journalism.
– I'm not facing many challenges, because I don't let them to be in my life. I always have a strong image that I'm trying to do. I always follow basketball, I need to have the wisdom and information about what's going on every day, every single second in Euroleague, in a basketball world. I'm keeping my mind strong, so my image can be stronger – Aksoy emphasizes.
As for the stereotype that sport is only for males, Aksoy says that now the world is changing in that sence.
– It is now 2025, since we are entering 2026, I think everything is changing, so we are becoming more equal. Always trying to be in the same place or level that men are and don't get me wrong, but there are so many amazing men out here that help me a lot, so really, I appreciate them, I love being around them, the stereotype is no more – Deniz Aksoy concludes our conversation.
