VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK WRAPS UP: Thirtieth season brings diversity

The final day of Vancouver Fashion Week brought a stunning variety of designs to end the week with a bang.

Menswear label Adam exposed gothic black grunge with long hanging sleeves and loose silhouettes. Male models were full of attitude, with make-up to suggest bruised faces, rocking oversized silver chains and pierced black baseball caps. Graphic text featured across the collection with NOT DEAD YET printed on the waistband of baggy black pants in contrast white lettering.

Alex S. Yu’s unisex collection was presented in front of a digital screen featuring green school lockers.  A grey and white chequered dress with a frilled hem, under a layer of shiny plastic, added a fresh twist to a preppy look. Pin stripes, pleats, and denim rendered a youthful vibe. A sportier feel emerged with pops of fluoro yellow and acid green on jackets with wide leg cropped trousers. Alex S. Yu has gone back to high school with a mismatch of colors and textures.

Alice Vaughan Davis collection Alternative Faces gave homage to Picasso with cubist style faces adorning colorful prints. Patterned shapes in polka dots and stripes splashed fun on structured fitted dresses. Cartoon colors and artistic brushstrokes brought the collection to life.

Set Set Set was girly and cute with bubblegum pink and baby blue ditzy prints. Ribbons laced up tops, and colorful pom-poms decorated tied up ponytails. Triangular cutouts exposed skin at the waist, and pinafore style dress was paired with silky shirts.
