DAY FOUR OF VFW: Elegance and ,,bang” in action
Day 4 at Vancouver Fashion Week started with a bang with Evan Clayton’s loud collection; 3 letters best describe it…S.E.X. Think red patent leather bodysuits with cut out revealing shapes. This Vancouver designer’s eponymous label focused on a bright primary colour palette of bold blue, lipstick red, and electric yellow. A star embellished silky bomber jacket and matching skirt gave a solid streetwear vibe. As per previous seasons, Clayton ended the show with a theatrical finish…to set the scene ,,SEX TO THE DEVIL” flashed on the back screen and Personal Jesus by Manson blared on the speakers. The finale led 3 drag queens in the 3 core colours to strut their stuff and fill the room with attitude.
For their 7th season, La Salle College brought a 7 talented students each with 7 looks at 7pm.
Rodica Gorea created some elegant monochromatic pieces, a highlight being a skirt with black and white pleated panels at the side seams, which looked almost like piano keys as it moved with the model.
Jonghon Lee Danny introduced a looser more casual style with loose jackets featuring dropped shoulders and wide sleeves.
Marilyn Yeo stunned with an exquisitely delicate and luxe collection of feminine gowns. A beautiful open shoulder dress with floral lace work, a cinched-in waist, and puffed skirting started the soirée. Scintillating metallics shined like mermaid scales. Shimmering layers of satin and silk, fringing beadwork, and flower appliqué set an opulent tone, with models crowned with gold floral headbands like tiaras.
Kemono was spotted and dotted with polka dots galore. The collection in shades of black, white, and grey brought splashes of dalmatian dots on loose, casual silhouettes. Shaped balloon sleeves, frilled layers, and white taping at hems were highlight features. A stand out piece was a silver shiny jacket, with a mirrored surface that reflected the lights of the runway.
Closing the show, Korean designer OLOH brought the baby blues. A beautiful pale blue with contrast white colour palette and pleated panels and classic cuts brought a modern and wearable collection. Apron style button up tops were featured alongside playful pleats and billowing full length dresses.
