DR. QIAN JUNHUI: Traditional Chinese medicine successfully cures functional infertility

Access to traditional Chinese medicine treatment of infertility is no different from the approach to the treatment of other health problems, so here, too, the observation of the human body as a unified whole is emphasized. Doctors of traditional Chinese medicine, according to dr. Qian Junhui of Specialist clinics ,,Kina Medika” in Podgorica, use diagnostic methods such as observation of tongue, feeling of pulse, determining the cause of the problem, as well as examining the nature of the problem, i.e. they estimate whether there is functional or organic infertility. If it is the functional infertility, dr. Qian Junhui adds, Chinese medicine is quite successful in its treatment, but if it is an organic infertility, for example, obstruction of the fallopian tubes, other measures of treatment are proposed.

Dr Qian Junhui

– Traditional Chinese medicine represents the view that the problem of infertility is closely linked to the kidneys, as well as liver and spleen. One of kidney functions is storing of essence of yin, which is the source of life and runs all of the body. It promotes the smooth circulation of blood and life/vital energy qi and is also the basis for forming menstrual blood – Tian Gui. Tian Gui in Chinese medicine is like the pituitary gland that controls the secretion of sex hormones, respectively, operation of the ovaries and testicles. Additional meridians or energy channels chōng and rèn are also very important. Rèn meridian is associated with the uterus, a chōng meridian is linked to the ovaries. They are like an ocean of blood, which means that they direct the menstrual cycle – our interviewee says.
As for male infertility, she explains, the kidneys, liver and spleen are again the vital organs, particularly in the case of poor mobility or decreased sperm count.
– Pathological mechanism is the lack of yin and yang in the kidneys, the stagnation of the blood, as well as moisture and heat in the body, apropos, external pathogenic influences on the flow of energy. Therefore, the emphasis is placed on compensation of yin and yang in the kidneys and the improvement of the blood circulation, the ejection or removal of pathogens such as moisture which influence the stoppage or lack of qi energy. This is how balance is achieved between yin and yang, apropos, when there are no pathogenic factors and the energy is compensated, the male reproductive power is strengthen. Men who are faced with the problem of infertility can have a low level of zinc and selenium in the ejaculate, therefore plants such as Chinese cuscuta, Godji berry, epimedium etc. are used as they have a positive effect on the operation of reproductive organs and increasing of volume of ejaculate, also creating a favorable environment for the sperm – says dr. Qian Junhui.
The main method in the treatment is the use of mixture of herbs, that is, herbal formula made according to the recipe of doctors of traditional Chinese medicine. They are the core of the treatment of infertility and are often in themselves sufficient, but the doctors of traditional Chinese medicine make a plan and program of therapy that should provide the best results. Beside herbs, they include acupuncture in the treatment, as well as foot bath or medicated enemas, even some methods that are used in physical therapy, such as the massage Tui Na and moxibustion.
In response to the question what is the view of traditional Chinese medicine regarding the procedures of in vitro fertilization, dr Qian Junhui says:
– Traditional Chinese medicine has a positive attitude towards the methods of in vitro fertilization. Even the use of methods of traditional Chinese medicine has a positive effect on amplification of endometrial receptivity, it encourages the operation of system of glands with endocrine secretion, and therefore increases the chance of successful conception.
