DAY FOUR: From street grunge to oversized statement pieces in Vancouver

Vancouver Fashion Week kicked off day 4 at the Chinese Cultural Center once again with creative designers from all over the world. Thursday evening presented numerous men’s collections shifting from street grunge to oversized statement pieces.
BLACKMERLE – VANCOUVER
Terry Shin, the face and creative director behind BLACKMERLE, opened day four of VFW with slicked down models in dystopian streetwear. Based in Seoul and Vancouver, Shin has created a paradox of military grunge and street clothes, focusing on powerful silhouettes, chain accents and a dark pallet. Overly large shoes, gelled hair and highlighted skin completed the apocalyptic meets high fashion streetwear.

TSUNG YU CHAN – TAIWAN
This Taiwanese men’s wear line is new to Vancouver Fashion Week. Debuting in 2016, Chan’s designs are a collaboration of street style and high fashion. Taking cues from construction uniforms and nineties pop-grunge, Chan's Fall/Winter 2017 line is dark, moody, and relaxed. This seasons collection is a compilation of high turtlenecks, oversized sweaters and eclectic details that cause a statement. Details like electrical tape arm bands and reflective cross body stripes add a nouveau grunge flair to the street style aesthetic.

GABBIE SARENAS – PHILIPPINES
Created in the Philippines, Gabbie Sarenas creations are not only beautiful, they are one of a kind and inherit her cultural practices. Romantic details and elaborate pieces are one way in which Gabbie Sarenas rocks the fashion scene. Sarenas’ fall/winter 2017 line features lush linens and refreshingly clean lines. Parred down models crossed the runway in whimsical midi skirts and voluminous sleeves. Relaxed peplums and minute stripes added a romantic touch to Sarenas’ unique line.

STEFANO GIAMMATTEI – GUATEMALA
Stefano Giammattei’s career began at the age of sixteen. His passion and love for fashion started with his inspiration that included the “unique components of the Guatemalan individual.” City F/W, his most recent collection exclusively for men, ties fashion and society together, unveiling a beautiful and striking connection. Giammattei’s collection features structured jackets and printed trousers. These classic designs are given a new twist with unexpected details like asymmetrically cut vests and jackets which make City F/W the unequivocal cool kid of menswear.
